Sheila

In all my work—digital artistry, fine art photography, acrylic and mixed media, I seek to bring the glow of light into our perception of the world. That is the origin of the name “Lightscapes.”

For my digital art, my own original photographs are transformed using an electronic stylus, tablet, and computer. These photographs are identical with prints of oil or watercolor painting, pastel or ink sketches.  My photographs also become transformed into the kind of finished camera work that used to require hours spent in the darkroom . Today I spend those hours in my digital darkroom. Instead of toxic  photo chemicals, I use software which lets me choose the type of brush or other artist’s tool  I want, and  the mix of colors I want.

My work is inspired as I observe the interplay of my feelings toward the natural world and the man-made world .  This inspiration is transmuted  by the careful work of my hands, aided by the high-tech tools I use and the most modern and flexible painting medium: acrylic.  Modern acrylic pigments and glazes allow me the freedom I need either when used alone, or in mixed media assemblages.

I am a juried member of the West Virginia Art and Crafts Guild, and Allied Artists of West Virginia. I sell my work at several galleries in West Virginia, at juried art shows in various parts of the country, and (by juried invitation) at Tamarack—“The Best of West Virginia”—our state’s landmark arts and crafts showcase.

My work  has won purchase awards and cash prizes at various exhibits, competitions and art shows, both locally and in states outside West Virginia. Additionally, my work was featured in an extended Gallery article in the magazine, Wonderful West Virginia.

My work with Lightscapes has been a wonderful, personal odyssey for me. Please join me in this journey!
