I have studied and experimented with photography since my teens and have always shot my images to express mood and emotion. All my shots touch me in one way or another, and I hope my work will evoke those feelings in you.
Sometimes black and white photography is the best way to do this; sometimes it will be straight color photography. But often, I use digital artistry to express what I saw and felt when I shot the original image. This medium is my special passion.
In this case, I see the picture as a painting. With a digital tablet and stylus, I use color, texture and tone to bring out the hidden aspects of the image. I may also make other substantial changes to the original shot in order to achieve the underlying mood I sense. I want the final result to express my vision and to draw the viewer into that vision.
Some examples of this kind of work include the montages which I am currently experimenting with, and also images that look like watercolor paintings, oil paintings or ink sketches. But my medium is light, transformed with a stylus and computer into the kinds of results traditional painters achieve with a paintbrush and physical pigments.
I am a juried member of the West Virginia Arts and Crafts Guild, a juried member of Allied Artists of West Virginia, and my work is for sale in several galleries in West Virginia, including Tamarack in Beckley, WV (both in the Fine-Art Gallery (where my prints are sold) and the crafts section where my Art Cards are available), and at art shows in various parts of the country.
When I’m not holding a camera or digitally painting, I like to read science-fiction and fantasy, garden, cook, and walk in the woods.
